The Beatles Receive Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy

RINGO: "It's great to be here. It's a wonderful to-do with music. For me, that's my life. At 13, I was ill, I was in hospital. They gave me a little, teeny drum, and I only ever wanted to do that for the rest of my life. And that's what's carrying on today, really, The Beatles' music is still out there and that's the thing I'm most proud of."

Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison and Yoko Ono accepted the award on behalf of The Beatles.

The Recording Academy honoured the 2014 Special Merit Awards recipients at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Nominees Reception on Jan. 25 in Los Angeles. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipients are The Beatles, Clifton Chenier, the Isley Brothers, Kraftwerk, Kris Kristofferson, Armando Manzanero, and Maud Powell; Trustees Award honorees are Rick Hall, Jim Marshall and Ennio Morricone; and Emile Berliner and Lexicon are Technical GRAMMY Award recipients.
