30 January, 1969 - The Beatles' Rooftop Gig

Rooftop Gig

After lengthy deliberation about where the location should be ('The pyramids? The QE2?'), The Beatles played their now-legendary—and subsequently, final—live gig on the rooftop of Apple HQ in London on 30th January, 1969.

I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we've passed the audition.

John

“The Beatles: Get Back” features the full rooftop gig, and takes audiences back in time to the band’s January 1969 recording sessions, which became a pivotal moment in music history. The docuseries showcases The Beatles’ creative process as they attempt to write 14 new songs in preparation for their first live concert in over two years. Faced with a nearly impossible deadline, the strong bonds of friendship shared by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr are put to the test.

For a deeper look into that moment in time, see inside Twickenham Film Studios, Apple Studios and Abbey Road Studios (locations from The Beatles: Get Back film) with John Harris - journalist and an editor of The Beatles: Get Back book. Watch and listen as John also meets members of the public to talk about the band, their music and the legacy of their iconic rooftop performance.
