Fav Track: Help! (Help)

The lyrics are intelligent, the tune is amazing and the whole performance is electric!

My Comments

  • It's superb to see crystal clear black & white images of the greatest band ever singing one of their finest songs. No argument!

    Help! on 7th Oct 12.

  • From "I am a Walrus": Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.

In Liverpool, the playground rhyme that John knew and adapted in his lyric was: "Yella bella custard, green snot pie,
All mixed up with a dead dog's eye.
Spread it on a butty, spread it on thick.
Swallow it down with a cold cup of sick."
    Yum!

I Am the Walrus (MMT) on 24th Feb 12.

  • End of an era. Start of four separate eras, some better than others!

The Beatles' final photo session together, at Tittenhurst Park on 23rd Feb 12.

  • About 20 years ago I was walking down Mathew Street and suddenly 'All My Loving' drifted on the night air from out of The Cavern Club. Fifty years ago I watched The Beatles many lunchtimes and evenings at the original Cavern so it was a haunting and nostalgic experience, bringing back great memories of magical days in the 60s.

All My Loving on 21st Feb 12.

  • Being young wasn't enough. You needed to have come from Liverpool. You needed the scousers' blend of witty humour, sentimentality and cynicism. Plus an intelligent use of the English language. And some poetry. And a bit of rock!

    1957-1962 on 9th Sep 09.

  • I went back to Liverpool in the 80s and was walking down Mathew Street when the sound of 'All My Loving' came drifting on the still night air from the Cavern Club - a truly haunting memory.

All My Loving (WTB) on 9th Sep 09.

About me

I was born in Preston, Lancashire, England and moved to Liverpool when I was a baby. We lived in Wavertree, not far from George Harrison's house. I went to school at the Liverpool Bluecoat Grammar School. Instead of football me and me mates would skive off over the back wall and head for The Cavern. At the lunchtime sessions you could hear The Beatles, Gerry & the Pacemakers, The Big Three, the Merseybeats and many more. In 1961 I started work at the Mersey Docks & Harbour Board offices but nearly every lunchhour we spent in The Cavern. It was my second home!
