Fav Track: I Don't Want To Spoil The Party

I love the combination of John's acoustic and George's clean, beautiful Gretsch. There is a sadness to the song but it's subtle. The whole group plays beautifully on it.

  • Just gorgeous. Beautiful, gentle arrangement and fine vocals by John. Always seemed a "lost" song, not fitting anywhere but it's got a great home on Past Masters now.

About me

I was born in 1971, thus failing to be alive when things were actually happening, actually.

Since my 11th birthday in 1982, when I was given the "20 Greatest Hits" lp, I've been hooked. My house is full of books, magazines, Beatles Monthlies and many, many, many records! I suppose I'm a serious Fabhead.

I live in Retford, in North Nottinghamshire. I'm ill-health retired now, due to my losing part of my sight and I generally enjoy my music and play guitar.

I have a cat, Cara, who keeps me sane.

Hello to anybody who likes the Beatles!!

Fav album
Rubber Soul

There's a sense that it was becoming more rewarding for the band if they put their main effort into recording and this album is evidence that there's a lot of interest in texture and more complex arrangements. Also, the instrumentation is more varied. There is little or no filler and the album feels "complete", a total entity, rather than a collection of singles. The fact that no single (in the UK) was taken from this also marked a change in emphasis and thought about what an album was.
