PAUL PERFORMS FIRST EVER CONCERTS AT NEW YORK'S CITI FIELD JULY 17 & JULY 18
5th June 2009
Paul Returns to New York to Continue Inaugural Concert Tradition
Tickets Go On Sale Monday, June 15 at 10:00 A.M ET

FLUSHING, N.Y., June 3, 2009 - Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Paul McCartney will perform the historic first concerts at Citi Field - the new home of the Mets - Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18.
Tickets go on sale Monday, June 15 at 10:00 A.M. ET online exclusively at www.507tixx.com
and by phone at 718-507-TIXX. These concerts are rain or shine.
These inaugural concert events at Citi Field mark the latest in a series of landmark performances that link the beloved Beatle with New York City and the home of the Mets.
Beginning with The Beatles' legendary musical christening of Shea Stadium in 1965, and continuing with McCartney's special appearance at Billy Joel's "Last Play at Shea" show that closed the stadium last year, McCartney's summer shows at Citi Field will once again mark a momentous occasion in the history of New York - and rock n' roll itself.
PAUL said: "I am really excited about playing Citi Field - The Beatles were the first to play at Shea Stadium and along with Billy Joel I was the last to sing at the old Shea. So to be the first to play this stadium is incredible. I am really looking forward to a buzzing show."
"Every time Paul McCartney steps on a stage is a special event because of the timelessness of the music and the enthusiasm and verve that this icon gives to each performance," said Randy Phillips, President & CEO of AEG Live. "Christening Citi Field as a venue will give this concert the added weight of the historical significance of The Beatles appearance at Shea Stadium 44 years ago."
"There's no more appropriate artist in the history of rock and roll to play the first concert at Citi Field," said Jeff Wilpon, COO, New York Mets. "The era of big-time rock and roll concerts started with Paul and The Beatles at Shea and we're thrilled to continue that tradition at our new home."
The Citi Field concerts on July 17 and July 18 will feature classics from McCartney's extensive catalog, including Beatles, Wings and solo career hits as well as selections from his most recent album Electric Arguments, released under his alias The Fireman.
Additionally, the Citi Field shows will be McCartney's first U.S. appearances since his recent headlining stand at the first night of this year's Coachella festival and the same weekend's record-breaking one-off opening of the new Joint in Las Vegas. Reactions to the two sold out 2.5 hour performances were unanimously ecstatic from fans and critics alike:
"McCartney remains a sharp and agile performer, his voice as supple, warm and elastic as ever... Macca signatures Let It Be and The Long and Winding Road... still have the power to raise gooseflesh." -- USA TODAY
"The verdict from his Coachella debut on Friday? Never underestimate the power of a Beatle... The night belonged to Paul." -- LOS ANGELES TIMES
"For almost two and a half hours, he had the attention of what seemed to be the entire multigenerational festival" -- THE NEW YORK TIMES
"Everything you could ask for in a McCartney set. Stunning. Beautiful." -- LA WEEKLY
"The concert of a lifetime" -- LAS VEGAS CITYLIFE
The Beatles gave the first-ever concert at Shea Stadium on August 15, 1965, in front of more than 55,000 fainting, crying, and screaming fans. It was, and remains to this day, the most historic concert ever, as it was the first time in history that a sports stadium was used for a rock concert. The groundbreaking Beatles concert at Shea set new attendance records at the time; it was the first large-scale, outdoor concert that demonstrated such events could be hugely successful and profitable.
On July 18, 2008, Paul McCartney returned to Shea for the first time in 43 years for an unannounced guest performance at Billy Joel's "Last Play at Shea" concert. His signature Hofner bass in hand, McCartney jumped on stage - surprising not only Joel but also the sold-out audience of 55,000 - and launched straight into "I Saw Her Standing There." McCartney closed the night with his seminal anthem "Let It Be" featuring Joel on backing vocals, giving the legendary Shea Stadium a truly memorable send-off. That show ended just as McCartney's first-ever performance at Shea with The Beatles had started - with a deafening response from the massive crowd.

Mystery Beatles lyric is a dream display at the British Library
8th May 2009
A previously unseen George Harrison lyric, found by author and collector Hunter Davies, goes on display at the British Library today (8 May). Written in early 1967 when George was aged 23 or 24, the untitled song was penned at a time when The Beatles had stopped touring to spend more time in the studio to work on what would arguably become their most famous record, Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Beatles are still one of the world's greatest bands, almost 40 years after their split.
Hunter Davies found the lyric during his research for a new edition of The Beatles official biography, which has just been re released more than 40 years after its original publication. In its introduction, Hunter recalls how he collected Beatles lyrics discarded as scrap paper from the floor of Abbey Road studio and kept them as souvenirs. It's almost certain that they would have been thrown out by the cleaners if he hadn't picked them up.
Written in George's handwriting, which all true Beatles fans will recognize, it's not a song that he ever recorded, or perhaps even put music to, as far as we can tell. The girl George was dreaming about remains a mystery although it could have been his then wife Pattie Boyd. The lyric [sic] is eight lines long and reads a bit like teenage angst:
Im happy to say that its only a dream
when I come across people like you,
its only a dream and you make it obscene
with the things that you think and you do.
your so unaware of the pain that I bear
and jealous for what you cant do.
There's times when I feel that you haven't a hope
but I also know that isn't true.
On the reverse side of George's lyric are instructions on how to reach The Beatles manager, Brian Epstein's country house in Sussex, written in Brian's hand. This means that George must have written the lyric before August 1967 when Brian was found dead at his London home following an accidental sleeping pill overdose. Significantly, John Lennon would later claim that this signalled the beginning of the end for the Beatles.
Hunter Davies, The Beatles official biographer, said: "I can't believe I'd kept George's lyric all these years but had forgotten about it until now! Although George is no longer around to tell us what the inspiration was for the song, I'm glad the lyric will be on display at the British Library for generations of Beatles fans to enjoy."
Jamie Andrews, Head of Modern Literary Manuscripts at the British Library, said: "George's words are all that is left of the song - we can only guess what it would have sounded like so it is an invaluable and hugely interesting piece of Beatles memorabilia. The nation loves The Beatles so it's great to see George's lyric reunited with those of his band mates in the British Library next to John Lennon's 'Help' and Paul McCartney's 'Yesterday'."
Although Beatles compositions were credited to 'Lennon/McCartney', in reality most of the songs were ninety percent Lennon or ninety percent McCartney, rather than being simple fifty/fifty splits. The handwriting of each lyric on display at the British Library illustrates this, for example, 'Help' is one of Lennon's so it's in his handwriting. 'Yesterday' and 'Michelle' are by McCartney so it's in his handwriting. This makes George's lyric all the more rare.
Most of the British Library's Beatles collection is on loan by kind permission of Hunter Davies, who plans to donate it to the Library after his death. The collection features a wide range of memorabilia that ranges from a fan club membership card to the lyrics of 'A Hard Day's Night', written by John Lennon on the back of a birthday card to his son Julian.
Also on display are concert tickets, a printed Christmas fanzine letter, a 45rpm single for A Hard Day's Night, an untitled verse written by John Lennon, the first issue of the Beatles magazine and an early photo of the band.
George's lyric which has never been seen before, joins other Treasures of the British Library - such as Magna Carta and Shakespeare's First Folio - in the Sir John Ritblat Gallery, which is free and open to the public.

GEORGE TO BE HONOURED WITH STAR ON HOLLYWOOD WALK OF FAME
9th April 2009
WHERE: 1750 Vine Street in front of the legendary Capitol Records building
WHEN: Tuesday, April 14, at 11:30 a.m.
Over a period of decades, George Harrison earned a reputation as one of the most enigmatic and creative individuals born to rock and roll. As signaled by his first post-Beatles release, 1970's epic All Things Must Pass, here was a man with a story all his own. His list of accomplishments is long and eclectic in its scope.

George Harrison was born on February 25, 1943 in Liverpool. After a stint playing with his group the Rebels, George, together with his schoolmate Paul McCartney, joined John Lennon's Quarrymen. He was fifteen at the time, and the stage was set for The Beatles to emerge as the best possible news in post-War Britain.
Over the course of The Beatles' career, Harrison played the role of guitarist, singer and songwriter. His contributions to The Beatles' catalogue include "I Need You," "Taxman," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," "Something," and "Here Comes the Sun," to name only a few. His lifelong interest in Indian culture advanced considerably through his friendship with Ravi Shankar and affected all of The Beatles and their musical explorations.

In the years immediately following the break-up of The Beatles, George pursued his interests in the creation and restoration of gardens, rare books, and car racing with the same intensity he brought to all of his passions. At the same time, he followed up the massive success of All Things Must Pass with a string of major recordings, the bulk of which went gold or platinum. One could argue that The Concert for Bangladesh, featuring George's friends Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Ravi Shankar, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr, and others, has had the greatest impact. As a response to a world crisis, it was like nothing that the music business had witnessed up to that point and earned a Grammy for Album of the Year in 1973.

After a five-year hiatus from recording, George Harrison came back on top with 1987's Cloud Nine. The album made the top ten in both the US and the UK. It was in this same period that George formed the Traveling Wilburys. "Handle with Care" was the Wilburys' first single, and it caught the world by surprise. The Wilburys would go on to earn a Grammy and are still remembered as the "supergroup" with no equal.
In the years 1994-96, George and the remaining Beatles gathered to work on The Beatles Anthology. The Anthology project was an enormous success, as a movie, a recording, and a book. It would be George's last adventure in Beatles territory.
After a life of excursions in the arts and spiritual adventures, George Harrison passed away in 2001. The following year, A Concert for George was filmed at The Royal Albert Hall. Among those who turned out to remember their friend were Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, George's son Dhani, Billy Preston, and Joe Brown. A magical night, the event captured something of the impact, warm and intense, George had on those fortunate enough to know him well.
His songwriting was powerful enough to generate standards in the field. His love for humor and film turned him, almost inadvertently, into an important movie producer. And, without a doubt, his contribution to The Beatles left an indelible mark on that band's music and character - we hear it still.
Martin Scorsese is currently directing a documentary feature about George's remarkable life, and on April 14, Capitol/EMI will announce plans for a new George Harrison music release.
THE BEATLES' ENTIRE ORIGINAL RECORDED CATALOGUE REMASTERED FOR RELEASE 09-09-09
7th April 2009
Apple Corps Ltd. and EMI Music are delighted to announce the release of the original Beatles catalogue, which has been digitally re-mastered for the first time, for worldwide CD release on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 (9-9-09), the same date as the release of the widely anticipated "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game. Each of the CDs is packaged with replicated original UK album art, including expanded booklets containing original and newly written liner notes and rare photos. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. On the same date, two new Beatles boxed CD collections will also be released.
You need Adobe Flash to see this videoThe albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilising state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the catalogue has seen since its original release.
The collection comprises all 12 Beatles albums in stereo, with track listings and artwork as originally released in the UK, and 'Magical Mystery Tour,' which became part of The Beatles' core catalogue when the CDs were first released in 1987. In addition, the collections 'Past Masters Vol. I and II' are now combined as one title, for a total of 14 titles over 16 discs. This will mark the first time that the first four Beatles albums will be available in stereo in their entirety on compact disc. These 14 albums, along with a DVD collection of the documentaries, will also be available for purchase together in a stereo boxed set.
Within each CD's new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. With the exception of the 'Past Masters' set, newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, directed by Bob Smeaton, are included as QuickTime files on each album. The documentaries contain archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.
A second boxed set has been created with the collector in mind. 'The Beatles in Mono' gathers together, in one place, all of the Beatles recordings that were mixed for a mono release. It will contain 10 of the albums with their original mono mixes, plus two further discs of mono masters (covering similar ground to the stereo tracks on 'Past Masters'). As an added bonus, the mono "Help!" and "Rubber Soul" discs also include the original 1965 stereo mixes, which have not been previously released on CD. These albums will be packaged in mini-vinyl CD replicas of the original sleeves with all original inserts and label designs retained.
Discussions regarding the digital distribution of the catalogue will continue. There is no further information available at this time.

15th September 2008
Apple Corps Ltd./Cirque du Soleil have confirmed an October 20 release of the feature-length documentary ‘All Together Now’ on DVD, which will be marketed and distributed worldwide by EMI Music. The DVD release follows acclaimed film festival screenings across North America, including a sold out opening night U.S. premiere at the Silverdocs Festival in Washington D.C. where the Washington Post observed that "All Together Now" "cuts into the heart of [LOVE]."
You need Adobe Flash to see this video"All Together Now" has screened at a number of festivals in the U.S. and across Canada in 2008, and accolades have followed. The film's U.S. debut opened the American Film Institute's Silverdocs festival in Washington DC in June where Rolling Stone praised the film's sweeping visual style and "many insightful interviews." Screenings were as enthusiastically received at the Cinevegas festival in Las Vegas, where it was called "remarkable" by Las Vegas Magazine, and the Hotdocs festival in Toronto, where Variety noted that "All Together Now" "wowed audiences."
It will be screened in London at the 16th Raindance Film Festival on October 9th.
The documentary details the story behind the unique partnership between The Beatles and Cirque du Soleil that resulted in the creation and 2006 launch of LOVE, the stage production still playing to packed houses at The Mirage in Las Vegas, and the experimental Beatles soundscape album of the same name which garnered two Grammy Awards for producers Sir George and Giles Martin. The film is dedicated to the memory of Neil Aspinall, former CEO of Apple Corps and an Executive Producer of the DVD.
"All Together Now" faithfully recounts how the LOVE project came into being, borne from the personal friendship between George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte. George saw how the twin talents of Cirque du Soleil and The Beatles could be fused into something new and totally original.
The director, Adrian Wills, traveled between London, Montreal, and Las Vegas recording early meetings between the Cirque du Soleil & Apple Corps Ltd. creative teams, as well as filming contributions from Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison discussing how The Beatles' music can be used in a different way. Noting the uniqueness of these interactions Wills explains, "What surprised me the most was how human the whole process was."
These early stages of the project were all filmed, as were the first rehearsals at the Mirage Hotel theatre in Las Vegas, which was completely rebuilt with a one-of-a-kind sound system and complex round staging to house the LOVE show. Sir George and Giles Martin, the show's Musical Directors, were involved every step of the way with the remarkable Cirque du Soleil creative team, performers and backstage staff.
It wasn't all "plain-sailing" and there has been no attempt to disguise some of the disagreements that took place along the way regarding how some of the songs would be portrayed visually. These creative differences, a necessary part of the overall process of bringing LOVE to its most vibrant life, illustrate the participants' love and respect for the music and vision of The Beatles.
In addition to their roles within the main film, Sir George and Giles, along with engineer Paul Hicks, also feature in a bonus feature titled "Changing The Music" which reveals in fascinating depth how the music was created and the challenges they faced. They explain how they sourced some of the individual instruments and effects and how they were encouraged to experiment.

The Beatles and the entire Apple Corps family, both past and present, wish to extend their deepest sympathy to the family of Neil Aspinall.
24th March 2008
The Beatles and the entire Apple Corps family, both past and present, wish to extend their deepest sympathy to the family of Neil Aspinall.
As a loyal friend, confidant and chief executive, Neil's trusting stewardship and guidance has left a far-reaching legacy for generations to come.
All his friends and loved ones will greatly miss him but will always retain the fondest memories of a great man.
"Neil was a great man who I knew even before I met any of the guys in The Beatles. I met him at school when we were both eleven and we remained friends ever since. I was able to say goodbye and thank him for everything he did for us and I send my deepest loving sympathies to his wonderful family. I will miss him but will remember the laughs, there were plenty." – Sir Paul McCartney
"I've known Neil many years and he was a good friend. We were blessed to have him in our lives and he will be missed. Barbara and I send condolences to Suzy and the family. Peace and love." - Ringo Starr
"Neil was an important member of the Beatles' family. John loved him. I continued to treasure his wisdom and support in the years after John's passing. My love and deepest sympathy go to Neil's wife Suzy, and to his children. With love." - Yoko Ono Lennon
"Neil takes with him the love and history of his extended family. He was our constant and avuncular caretaker for so many years; there is no way to measure how much he will be missed. Our thoughts are with his wife Suzy, their sons, daughters and grandchildren. God bless you Neil." - Olivia and Dhani Harrison
Neil Aspinall, The Beatles' friend, guide and Apple mastermind, has died.
24th March 2008
Released on behalf of the family of Neil Aspinall.
One of the great legends of the music business, Neil Aspinall, has died in New York after a brief illness and a glorious life.
He was 66. His wife Suzy and his five children were with him as he passed over.
Neil's family said today: "He was the centre of our universe and still is".
Neil Aspinall was the man who was closer to all of The Beatles than anyone. Under his creative and caring direction, The Beatles business phenomenon and its trademark Apple transcended far beyond the Sixties.
He was the Beatles' friend who became their roadie who became the chief of their empire and the unassuming, modernising mastermind behind the band's enduring appeal and influence for four generations.
Although he would deny it, he was long considered to be "the real Fifth Beatle" by the music and entertainment industries which for 40 years revered and respected him as one of the wisest men in the record business.
Today Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr paid tribute to "a loyal friend and a great man".
In a statement on behalf of Paul, Ringo, Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, Apple Corps said today: "The Beatles and the entire Apple Corps family, both past and present, wish to extend their greatest sympathy to the family of Neil Aspinall. As a loyal friend, confidant and chief executive, Neil's trusting stewardship and guidance has left a far-reaching legacy for generations to come. All his friends and loved ones will greatly miss him but will always retain the fondest memories of a great man".
Neil was born in October 1941 to Liverpool parents evacuated to Prestatyn, North Wales. He was the Liverpool schoolboy who became pals with Paul McCartney and George Harrison at the Liverpool Institute for Boys, where together they formed the 'Mad Lad' gang, sharing cigarettes behind the sheds, "doing ridiculous things together" and, as teenagers, adding John Lennon to the Mad Lads.
Although he studied for and briefly became an accountant, when his friends later formed The Beatles with Pete Best and then Ringo Starr, Neil remained at the centre of the gang that was to change the world. Always he was right at the Beatles side; captaining their flagship Apple for 40 years after beginning as their first road manager and driver of their old Commer van, doubling up as The Beatles' minder, spotlight operator, confidante, fixer, personal assistant and, moreover, their mate.
In a rare interview, Neil once said "People used to say to me then 'What do you do?' I'd stopped being an accountant or pretending to be one by this time and I said 'I drive the band around' and they'd say 'Yeah - I know that, but what do you do for a living?' Two years later, the same people were saying 'You lucky git, Neil'".
In 1964 during the making of The Beatles movie 'A Hard Day's Night', Neil met his future wife Suzy. They were married in 1968. Neil was a very proud father and grandfather.
Following the death of The Beatles manager Brian Epstein in 1967, Neil was asked by the band to take over the management of their company Apple Corps when it was founded in 1968. Typically, he agreed on condition that he would manage the corporation "only until they found somebody else". He remained the chief of Apple Corps until last year.
Shrewd, innovative and totally-trusted, Neil was the unseen architect of the reinvention of the post-Sixties Beatles, first with The Beatles At The BBC cd in the mid-90s, followed by the record-breaking Beatles Anthology and Beatles 1 albums.
As the keeper of The Beatles flame and protector of their legend, it was Neil who quietly acquired for Apple the Beatles rights back to countless photographs and film footage that enabled the making of the Grammy-winning Beatles Anthology TV and video series and the band's celebrated autobiography.
It was also Neil who masterminded the modern merchandising of The Beatles, notably with the relaunch of The Beatles Yellow Submarine film and CD, making it a bigger success in the 90s than it had originally been in the Sixties. From Let It Be Naked to The Beatles' recent Cirque du Soleil show hit Love, to every Beatles business success since the band broke up in 1970, Neil Aspinall steered the ship - and the submarine - always ensuring the Beatles' strong bond with Liverpool in every venture.
It has been reported that during the last 20 years of Neil's time at the helm of Apple Corps, The Beatles sold in excess of 70 million albums.
Although modest in any claim of his achievements, his quick and dry wit was amused by a comment made in The Observer newspaper during the hugely-successful 1995-96 Beatles Anthology project. The multi-media project, of which Neil was executive producer, once again cemented the Sixties band's dominance of the music scene around the world - "the only band to have become bigger than The Beatles is The Beatles", commented The Observer on the Anthology-led resurgence of Fab.
His friend, Apple aide and ABC TV producer David Saltz said today: "Neil was the most brilliant and inspirational guy that everybody just gravitated around; he had an amazing mind and he was a very groovy guy".
Neil Aspinall's wise, commonsense approach to what he dubbed "not the music business but the Beatles business" commanded great affection and respect in all who had the privilege of working with him but he was an intensely-private and naturally modest man in both his professional and personal lives, never taking a bow himself. Neil avoided all personal publicity and always refused requests for interviews, pointing the credit to the band who made the records.
In The Beatles Anthology Neil said: "My happiest memories of being with the band were some of the laughs that we had backstage and in dressing rooms when nobody else was around and we were swapping jokes together. No big deal, really. It was those little personal things that are my favourite moments. We always had a laugh".
Besides running Apple Corps, Neil created Standby Films with Suzy - makers of the acclaimed 1999 Jimi Hendrix movie, Hendrix: Band Of Gypsys. Neil was also one of the co-founders of Paul McCartney's performing arts university LIPA, now housed in the building of their old school.
Few outside Neil's circle knew of his own talent as a wry artist with coloured inks - but now an exhibition of his previously-never-before-seen work is to be held on a date to be announced.
Neil Aspinall fell ill to lung cancer two months ago. He has been under care at the Sloan-Kettering hospital in New York.
